Tough Start!

Number of miles ridden by Glenn today..............79
Number of hours taken to accomplish this............9
Number of minutes Lynn was stuck in traffic after an accident on the only road connecting the Keys.........40
Wind speed Glenn rode into for 47 miles...........25
Air temp for todays ride.............78
Remembering the reason that we are on this journey.............PRICELESS

I Care I Cure is a cause very close to our hearts and we wear the pink shirts in honor of Ian because pink was his favorite color!  Thanks for helping us to make this impressive donation to the foundation!

Today......best laid plans!   No one told us that the wind would be blowing from the North relentlessly all day!  Glenn thought that the winds were impressive in Wyoming on his cross country ride in 2000 but these were even stronger.  The dark clouds and drizzle were minor factors.  After riding 46 miles INTO the wind, Glenn came up with a back-up plan.   I picked him up and drove him 32 miles north on Route 1 and dropped him off to ride south for that 32 miles with a tail wind!   I went back and picked him up before we headed to Key Largo, our destination for the night. What a difference that made in his time and energy expenditure.   We didn't make it the 105 miles planned but there is always tomorrow!

....And Glenn is off!

Glenn started on his journey at 7:07 AM after a few photo opportunities.  Thankfully, the wind seems calmer this AM than it was last night.  It is warm...in the 70's already...but cloudy which is a good thing for Glenn's ride but not so nice for my plan for a beach day!   We'll check in tonight with news of the day's ride.  Have a good Saturday!

Key West - Here We Come!

After spending last night in Lake City, Florida, we headed out by car early this AM with Key West as our destination.   We made such good time that we managed to get to Davie in time for lunch with Lynn's sister, Beth.  Her husband, Brad and son, Noah, popped in for a photo op too.  Beth and Brad are the founders of I Care I Cure and they are thrilled to have Glenn doing this ride to benefit the foundation.   After lunch, we pressed on toward Key West, enjoying the scenery as we traveled on Route 1 through the MANY Keys.   We had great tailwinds today.....Glenn is hoping for the same tomorrow as he pedals from Key West toward Key Largo.   We arrived in Key West in plenty of time for a great dinner at an outdoor cafe on Duval Street....Glenn was sure to consume enough calories to keep him going in the AM!

Several people have asked how many people are doing this ride with Glenn.  In the past, he has done these long rides in large groups.   When asked how many were riding with him this time, I heard him say three...me, myself and I!   That's right....he is flying solo this time.  He will have his trusty bike GPS and a map to help guide him and I will be on the road somewhere to come to the rescue should bad weather or fatigue hinder his progress.  This will be quite an experience for both of us!  Stay tuned!

Ready, Set.......

Today is the day!   We are off on our cycling adventure.  Thanks to all of our supporters who have helped me to surpass my monetary goal!   We are so appreciative of the many generous donations that have been made to I Care I Cure for this ride.  This cause is very important to our family and I am proud to be able to help in some small way!

Lynn and I are starting the long drive to Key West tonight and I plan to start my bike ride at Mile Zero on Saturday morning.   Lynn will try to post photos and updates daily so check back to follow the trip!    It should be an easy ride....no hills in Florida!
